The Robotic Space Cadets:This year, the Robo Ravens continued our mentorship of Team 18945 The Robotic Space Cadets, an FLL team comprised of 5th- and 6th-graders from Ashley Falls Elementary, an elementary school in Carmel Valley. This team, no longer a rookie team, started being mentored by the Robo Ravens in the summer of 2018, and now has competed in the new FLL game City Shaper.
As mentors, members of the Robo Ravens have been present at Space Cadet practices since the beginning of their season, and have helped lead them through the brainstorming, engineering, and programming processes of this year’s game as mentors.
In their preliminary qualifying tournament, the Space Cadets received second place in Robot Design and received one of the 7 possible advancement slots to the regional tournament. At LegoLand, despite issues in their Robot Game runs, the Space Cadets gave a great Robot Design presentation to the judges and won the Robot Design award. In an effort to further their learning and FIRST experience, the Space Cadets competed in an auxiliary tournament named Spring Showdown, with new Missions and a new Field Mat. They received first place in Core Values at this tournament, and are eagerly looking forwards to competing again next year.
